On Friday the 7th Christine O’Donnell, the owner and director of Beacon Gallery gave out 7 awards to artists currently featured in the Totems exhibition. These pieces were selected by herself and the two other judges in the jury, Lydia Gordon and YoAhn Han.
Lydia Gordon is the associate curator for exhibitions and research at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA.
YoAhn Han is a Korean painter based in Boston whose work is a visual dialogue between suppression and desire, a duality which speaks to both his experience of cerebral arteriovenous malformation and to his bifurcated cultural identity.
The works awarded are as follows:
Third Place 2D – Skins by Benjamin Sears

Second Place 2D – Temple of the Burdened Host by James Dye

First Place 2D – Alien Icon by Herbert Friedson

Third Place 3D – Bygones by Harriett Davis Cortez

Second Place 3D – Totem #4 by Adrienne Shishko

First Place 3D – Well Tempered by Helen Hierta

Best in Show – Removal by Fleur Themsar

Congrats to all the participants of Totems, they were already winnowed down to 40 from almost 900 pieces submitted! And congrats to the 7 winners above! Come and see the works in person – they’re even more spectacular than the photographs!
